When we got a chance to read Lucille Clifton in class, my eyes lit up. She represents not only a major shift in the self-realization of the feminist movement, but also in the African American community. Because of her strong feminist undertones, I chose an artist who was also as passionate feminist. Jackie Windsor, a pioneer in modern sculpture, is quoted as saying, “ A woman’s work is never done, I agree, but I like my work.”

Windsor’s use of tools and materials, wood, nails, and rope, often associated with men, yet prides here feminine side as well. Clifton, too, celebrates here femininity while also writing with unabashed pride that might be considered by some to be “unbecoming of a woman.”
